Responsibilities for fuel costs
As a car owner renting out your vehicle through GoMore, it is important to clearly understand how fuel costs are managed to ensure a transparent and fair rental experience for you and the renter.
Fuel cost responsibilities
- Renter’s responsibility: The renter is responsible for returning the car with the same amount of fuel as at the start of the rental. This means they cover the fuel costs during the rental period and must refuel the car accordingly before returning it.
How is the fuel level registered?
At the start and end of the rental
Initial fuel level: When handing over the car to the renter, you must record the current fuel level in the rental contract. This initial recording helps prevent disputes and ensures both parties agree on the fuel status from the beginning.
End of rental: Ensure that you check and record the fuel level when the car is returned. This should be documented in the rental contract to confirm that the fuel level matches what was agreed upon at the start.
Keyless rentals
- Automatic reporting: If your car is equipped with GoMore Keyless technology, the fuel level is typically reported automatically to the rental contract. This feature simplifies the process and enhances accuracy. If the system does not automatically report the fuel level, or if the reported level is incorrect, the renter is required to manually update the correct information in the GoMore app.
Handling discrepancies in fuel levels
Non-Keyless rentals
Lower fuel level: If the car is returned with less fuel than initially provided, this should be noted in the rental contract within the app. Discuss and agree upon fuel cost reimbursement directly with the renter upon the car's return. The agreed amount can then be entered into the app’s "additional costs" field, after which the charge will be automatically deducted from the renter’s payment card.
Higher fuel level: If the car is returned with more fuel than at the start, this is generally to your benefit, and no specific action is required unless you wish to reimburse the renter.
Keyless rentals
- Automatic charges and credits: Any discrepancies in fuel levels will be handled according to the rental terms. If the car is returned with less fuel, the renter will be charged, and the amount will be credited to your GoMore earnings. Conversely, if the car is returned with more fuel, the credit will be deducted from your earnings and transferred to the renter’s earnings.
Is the car required to be fully fueled when picked up?
- Recommendation but not a requirement: While GoMore recommends that you provide the car with a full tank of fuel to simplify the handover process, this is not mandatory. Whatever fuel level you choose, ensure it is clearly communicated and documented in the rental contract.
