What Is the Sharing Economy?

The European Commission defines the sharing economy as a business model that allows individuals to exchange goods and services through a platform. The sharing economy involves three different parties: the service provider, the service user, and the intermediary facilitating the service. Simply put, the sharing economy makes it possible to use existing resources more efficiently and reduce unnecessary purchases for things that are only occasionally needed in daily life.

What Is GoMore’s Mission, and Why Are We Talking About the Sharing Economy?

GoMore’s mission is to help people share their personal cars with others, free up urban space from cars for people, and contribute to the green transition. In Estonia, on average, every second person owns a car, and a large portion of these vehicles are concentrated in Tallinn. A high number of cars impacts daily life through traffic congestion and the constant search for parking spaces. In addition to traffic jams, cars produce pollution and noise.

According to research by the European Federation for Transport and Environment, shared mobility services reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and the total kilometers driven. Even more importantly, they encourage people to change their transportation habits, shifting them towards alternative mobility options like public transport and cycling.

Car-sharing also reduces the need to own a personal car. The same research shows that each shared car on a rental platform replaces 5 to 15 private cars. A car-sharing platform like GoMore offers various benefits. Most sharing models help reduce the number of personally owned cars, which in turn decreases the demand for parking and the environmental impact of car production. Additionally, shared mobility lowers overall vehicle kilometers traveled, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of driving. And, of course, it helps people cover part or even all of their car-related expenses.

Research shows that even a 10% reduction in private car ownership could double the demand for public transport, meaning that a shift from car ownership to shared mobility could bring significant environmental and health benefits. Everything mentioned above is exactly what GoMore is working towards. Our goal is to reduce the number of cars in urban areas so that people have more space to breathe clean air.

The Joy of Sharing

Chances are, someone in your neighborhood only uses their car once a week, and it happens to be at a time when you don’t need yours. That’s where GoMore steps in—allowing you to rent out your car through our platform, so your neighbor can use it instead of keeping an extra car. This means that a neighbor who doesn’t drive regularly could sell their car, lowering their expenses, while you can reduce your own car costs by earning rental income.

Beyond all the practical benefits, sharing also creates positive emotions and can even help you get to know your neighbors better—making that next elevator ride a little less awkward. By joining GoMore, you become part of a like-minded community of about 2.5 million car-sharers across Europe.

🚗 A warm welcome and let’s embark on this journey together! 😊
