Introducing GoMore and what we do – plus interesting statistics about Estonian cars.
GoMore Has Finally Arrived in Estonia
For a long time, GoMore has been transforming how Europeans think about car travel through its car-sharing platform. Now, the Danish company has set its sights on Estonia, seeing great potential to become one of the country's most popular car-sharing platforms. With rising car maintenance costs, the upcoming car tax, and Estonians’ openness to shared mobility, Estonia presents an ideal market for a company striving to reduce the number of cars on the streets and create more space for people.
As the leading car-sharing platform in the Nordics, GoMore is set to launch in Estonia soon. Currently, GoMore operates in six countries—Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria—helping people share cars while also earning extra income and contributing to environmental sustainability.
GoMore provides private car owners with a secure way to rent out their vehicles to verified GoMore members. By sharing more cars, we reduce the need for personal car ownership and use existing resources more efficiently.
According to Kerttu Torm, GoMore’s expansion into Estonia is a natural step, as Estonians have already embraced shared cars. Currently, there are approximately 748,000 registered cars in Estonia, and news reports suggest that car ownership is on the rise, leaving less space for parking and green areas in cities. “We see a great opportunity to help Estonian cities reduce the growing number of cars on the streets while freeing up more space for people,” says Kerttu.
More Efficient Use of Cars and Urban Space
On average, cars remain unused for 23 hours a day. This is a significant issue because nearly half of a car’s emissions come from the manufacturing process. In other words, cars contribute to pollution even before they are driven, making an unused car a poor investment for both the environment and personal finances.
“We should work together to increase the efficiency of each car, and the most practical way to do so is by sharing cars within our communities when we’re not using them ourselves. This allows us to make better use of existing vehicles while ensuring that urban space is allocated for more meaningful purposes than just car storage,” says Kerttu Torm.
Of Estonia’s 748,000 cars, 327,000 are concentrated in Tallinn. The city is gradually transitioning toward a circular economy and has set ambitious goals for 2035. Since a significant portion of emissions comes from cars, it is clear that reducing their numbers is necessary.
Like many other European cities, Tallinn has a high number of cars. However, Estonians have already adopted alternative modes of transport, including shared cars. In spring 2024, GoMore will introduce unique new opportunities to make car-sharing even more convenient. Our service allows people to give up personal car ownership and rent cars through our platform when public transport, cycling, or walking isn’t enough.
Our Finnish neighbors in Helsinki have already warmly welcomed GoMore, which is why we believe Estonia, in addition to excelling in digital services, can also set an example for Europe—and even the world—when it comes to sustainable mobility.
